The Chief/Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of financial principles and best practices within the banking or microfinance sector.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and other financial analysis as required by regulatory authorities and senior management.
- Financial Records Management: Maintain and update all financial records, ledgers, and journals in compliance with relevant accounting standards and internal policies.
- Compliance and Audit: Ensure adherence to all accounting regulations and internal control procedures. Coordinate and facilitate internal and external audits to ensure accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with management to develop and monitor annual budgets and financial forecasts. Provide financial insights and analysis to support decision-making processes.
- Taxation: Handle tax-related matters, including the preparation and filing of tax returns. Stay updated with changes in tax laws and regulations that may impact the bank/microfinance institution.
- Team Management: Supervise and lead the accounting team, providing guidance, training, and support to enhance their skills and ensure smooth functioning of the department.
- Financial Analysis: Analyze financial data and performance indicators to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement. Provide recommendations to management for strategic financial planning.
- Risk Management: Assess financial risks and work closely with risk management teams to implement appropriate measures to mitigate them.
- Financial System and Process Improvement: Continuously review and enhance accounting systems, processes, and procedures to improve efficiency, accuracy, and reliability of financial information.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of the latest accounting standards, regulations, and reporting requirements relevant to the banking/microfinance industry.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. A Master's degree or professional certifications like CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is a plus.
- Proven work experience as a Chief Accountant or similar role within the banking or microfinance sector.
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax regulations.
- Proficiency in using accounting software and financial management tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities to effectively manage and motivate the accounting team.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ethical behavior and integrity in handling sensitive financial information.
